Conference « TEN Investigation of Architecture », 25.04.2023 at 18:30 @ luca
This lecture is organised by luca, within the framework of the exhibition ‘Vilanova Artigas. Drawing Models’, curated by Emma Letizia Jones, Guillaume Othenin-Girard and Nemanja Zimonjić.
Wittgenstein once said that “words are deeds”. TEN begs to differ. Particularly in a time when words fail to reflect consensus on the material world and serve primarily to fortify self-fulfilling rhetoric.
In response to this contemporary stalemate, TEN returns to an investigation of how architecture is made legible in the world, investigating modes of architectural literacy and the relationship between words, drawings and buildings as carriers of knowledge in the long history of architectural practice and pedagogy.
These mediums are dissected and reconstructed with experimental methods of design practice in order to reveal the intersections and tensions between them. TEN explores, through a story – whether fiction or fact –, a drawing conveying all information necessary to enable the act of building and a physical prototype in multiple scales. Within these spaces of translation, we enact the potential for architecture; one that is accessible to all. What if everything you knew was negotiable?
